What we’ve got here is failure to communicate…

So that Cee-Lo song with the siren came on the radio and scared the shit out of me, and I thought, “Wow, that’s the only adrenaline rush I’ve had all week, and it was over a pop song. I’m truly a first world product. Sad and weird”
And then I tweeted (but since erased, and I’ll explain why)
“You probably don’t live in Africa if the only adrenaline rush you had all week was while you were driving and a siren came on a pop song”
Or something like that.

Anyhow, the thing is, 30% of my replies were “You uppity cunt”, “I live in Africa and I’m offended” etc etc…
The majority of people realized that my tweet was a statement about being pampered, and sheltered and how ridiculous that a common human function under times of duress ‘adrenaline’ only occurred when Cee-lo blew a fucking horn.
I mean, people are fighting to survive in refugee camps, in cities, kids being taken by lions, spiders in beds, snakes in toilets—in the great majority of the world they are using adrenaline 24/7… and there I am in my Audi having a fucking anuerysm because of CEE-LO AND HIS HORN.

But 30% of 150K followers is a big number and they all thought I was making fun of Africa. One person thinking I would make fun of Africa for being under duress would be terrible enough.
So no matter how many Tweet of the Days, RT’s or understanding I received for that, isn’t worth the thought that someone interpreted what I’ve said as offensive (when I wasn’t trying to be offensive).

Yesterday some people also thought my comment about Amy Winehouse was ‘uppity’. (Though, again, thousands did not)
I’ve tweeted about Winehouse in the past.
My tweet in 2010 was, “Winehouse getting breast implants is like drawing a smiley face on a garbage can instead of emptying it”
Because surely we can all agree that if that girl was going to do a makeover, she should have done a “get this crackpipe outta my mouth” makeover before a “getting me some big ol’ titties” makeover.
Apparently this made me a hypocrite when I told people who were tweeting
“Winehouse’s death is making drug dealers cry” and other not funny jokes about her death to ‘eat a bag of dicks’
Saying “Winehouse deserved to die- drugs” is the same as saying “__ deserved to die from AIDS” and that’s what I was reading in all of these jokes people were rattling off seconds of the news that Winehouse had died.

Twitter is a funny place when it comes to actual news or topics that aren’t personal observations. You either take a stance, oppose a stance, or sit back, be the ‘enlightened peacemaker’ and tell people to just enjoy both sides and to stop talking about it.
We’ve all found ourselves on one side of these three options at one time or another, depending on how closely, passionately we felt to the topic at hand.

Anyhow, my point is, we’re all human, we’re all vocal, and we all want to be heard… whether we’re wearing the hat of the instigator, the defense or the pacifist.

Just don’t be a hypocrite and claim to only be the one. You’ve been them all, and I’ve always supported your right to be them all.
Even when I’ve told you to eat a bag of dicks.
Lord knows I’ve had my share.
